Dear Everyone,

I have made copies of this note so they go to papa, Baba Sofija, Uncle Franco and Aunt Jadranka all at once. Jason has updated me. I’m so glad all is well—considering. I’m now living upstairs from the Papadopoulos family. How great is that?

Jason has been a saint. He has helped me make many friends. I have a good job on the docks. It is only a short walk from the house. I will start sending money home soon. I want to and will do more. My asylum request was approved. The government interview went well. I may get a decision about becoming a permanent resident in 4-6 months.

I read the papers, listen to the news about Bosnia and I’m so concerned. I sense a crazy few are driven by their blind faith in country, religion and history. They just accept all those things without any kind of proof. I now believe such stubbornness only adds to the problems we face. Is this what has caused the divides among our people and forced everyone to fight?

Enough of all that. Know I am well and I hope this finds you the same. I wish you the best of health and that your spirits stay strong. I love you and miss you and pray for you—and for peace—every day.
